Visual storytelling through expressive characters in colorful, surreal worlds
Shapelinx began as a commissioned visual language for Trojan Horse was a Unicorn (THU). The challenge was to create illustrations that were not only engaging in their own right, but also flexible enough to become a growing visual toolkit for the client's art department. Every scene had to tell its own story while allowing characters, objects and environments to be adapted, recombined and expanded for future themes and events.
Working within these creative constraints shaped the project in unexpected ways. Rather than limiting the illustrations, the modular approach encouraged a strong focus on clarity, expression and visual storytelling.
Simple shapes became expressive characters, and individual scenes evolved into increasingly rich, layered illustrations where character, composition and environment work together to create moments that invite curiosity and interpretation.
Today, Shapelinx has grown beyond its original purpose. What began as a commissioned design system has become an ongoing personal exploration of surreal visual storytelling.
While the project's modular foundations remain part of its DNA, I now continue to develop it with complete creative freedom, pushing its visual language further and discovering new possibilities with every illustration.
